General

What hair colour services do you specialise in?

Our Malvern team provides blonde foils, balayage, dimensional brunettes, grey blending, grey coverage, toners, glossing, root colour and corrective colour. Your recommended service will depend on your current colour, hair history, condition, desired result and preferred maintenance schedule.

Do I need a consultation before booking colour?

We strongly recommend a complimentary 15-minute consultation for major colour changes, corrective colour, balayage, substantial lightening or services involving previously compromised hair. A consultation allows us to assess your hair, discuss what is realistically achievable and provide an accurate service and pricing recommendation.

Can you help with damaged or previously coloured hair?

Yes. We will assess your hair condition and previous colour history before recommending further chemical services. Depending on the condition of your hair, we may recommend a strand test, treatment program or staged colour plan. Protecting the integrity of your hair takes priority over attempting an unsafe result in one appointment.

Do you offer grey blending as well as full grey coverage?

Yes. We offer both full coverage and softer grey-blending options. The most suitable approach depends on how much grey you would like to see, the contrast with your natural colour and how frequently you would like to return for maintenance.

How much will my appointment cost?

Every service is priced by the experience level of the stylist you book, across four levels from Stylist to Style Director, and every price is published on our services pages. The final figure also depends on hair length, thickness, starting colour, the product required and the complexity of the work. We will confirm your service plan and expected price before beginning major colour work.

Does a colour service include a haircut, a blow wave or a toner?

No. Colour prices cover the colour work only, and your hair is dried off afterwards without brush work. A toner, a haircut or a blow wave is each charged as its own service and can be booked for the same day. Toners start at $85. Please mention what you would like when you book so enough time is allowed.

What is the difference between the stylist levels?

Experience, speed and the degree of technical refinement. Style Directors have over eight years in the industry, Principal Stylists five to eight, Senior Stylists two to five and Stylists one to two years since qualifying. Every level is held to the same standard of work. A more experienced stylist generally works faster and has deeper expertise in advanced and dry-cutting techniques, and is priced accordingly.

Which stylist should I book?

Each member of our team has different areas of experience. Contact our front desk, or send an enquiry and ask for a complimentary consultation, and we will help match you with a stylist suited to your service, hair type, preferred result and budget.

Where is Rokk Ebony Malvern?

We are located at 247 Glenferrie Road, Malvern VIC 3144, near High Street. Route 16 trams operate along Glenferrie Road. Street parking is available in the surrounding area, although clients should allow additional time during busy periods.

Is Rokk Ebony Malvern independently owned?

Yes. Rokk Ebony Malvern is independently owned and operated by R.S 75 Investments Pty Ltd and trades under the Rokk Ebony brand.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand things happen, but as a business it is only fair that you let us know as soon as possible. We ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancelling later than that, or not turning up, risks a charge of 50% of the booked service price. We also reserve the right to cancel any booking that has not been confirmed.

What if I am not happy with my cut or colour?

Tell us within 7 days and we will adjust it at no extra charge. Refunds are only given if approved by salon management.

Haircuts and Finishing View service

Does a haircut include a wash and blow dry?

Yes. Your haircut appointment includes a consultation, a wash and a professional finish.

How long should I allow for a haircut?

Most cut and finish appointments run 60 to 90 minutes. A restyle, very long hair or very thick hair may take longer. The front desk will confirm the time when you book.

Can I book a haircut with a colour service on the same day?

Yes, and we recommend it for anything structural. Booking them together lets your stylist plan the shape and the colour placement as one result. Let the front desk know so enough time is allocated.

Blonde Foils View service

Will I get the blonde I want in one appointment?

Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on your starting colour, what is already on your hair and its condition. We will tell you at the consultation whether your result needs to be staged across more than one visit rather than promising it and compromising your hair.

Is a toner included with foils?

No. Toners are charged separately from foils, and most foil services are finished with one. Toners start at $85. Your colourist will tell you at the consultation whether your result needs a toner and what it will cost, so the figure you are quoted is the figure you pay.

Does a foil service include a cut or a blow wave?

No. Colour prices cover the colour work only. Your hair is dried off afterwards without brush work. A haircut or a blow wave can be booked on the same day and is charged as its own service, so please mention it when you book and we will allow the time.

I have box colour on my hair. Can you still foil it?

Often yes, but it changes the plan. Box colour lifts unevenly and may require a strand test first. Please tell us at the consultation, and bring the box or the product name if you have it.

Balayage and Lived-In Colour View service

What is the difference between balayage and foils?

Foils are packeted, which gives a controlled and usually brighter result with a defined regrowth line. Balayage is hand-painted, which gives a softer transition and a grow-out that is easier to live with. Many clients have both in the same head of hair.

How often do I need to come back?

Most balayage clients return every twelve to sixteen weeks, often with a gloss in between. That is the point of the service.

Can balayage go over existing colour?

Usually, but the existing colour affects how the lightener behaves. We will assess your hair history at the consultation and tell you whether the result needs to be staged.

Grey Blending and Grey Coverage View service

What is the difference between grey blending and grey coverage?

Coverage replaces the grey with an opaque colour, which gives an even result and a visible regrowth line in four to six weeks. Blending reduces the contrast so grey reads as dimension rather than regrowth, which is softer and stretches further between appointments.

Can you help me grow my grey out?

Yes. Growing out grey without a hard line usually takes a staged plan using blended colour and placed lightening. We will map the stages and the likely timeframe at your consultation.

My grey does not seem to hold colour. Can you do anything?

Resistant grey is common, particularly through the front hairline. It is a formulation and processing issue and it is usually manageable once we know it is there. Please mention it at your consultation.

Brunette and Dimensional Colour View service

Why does my dark colour look flat?

Usually because the same colour has been pulled through the lengths at every appointment, building up density on the ends. Adding a second tone, or correcting the build-up first, is what restores dimension.

Can I get dimension without going lighter?

Yes. Lowlights, glossing and tonal work all create dimension without lifting the base.

How do I stop my brunette going brassy?

A gloss between colour appointments is the most effective control, along with limiting heat and using the right home care. We will recommend what your hair needs at your appointment.

Colour Correction and Hair Repair View service

Do I need a consultation before booking colour correction?

Yes. A consultation, and in some cases a strand test, is required before corrective colour is booked. It is the only way to give you an accurate plan and price.

How much does colour correction cost?

It is quoted individually after your consultation, because the work depends entirely on what is currently on your hair and what condition it is in. We will confirm the price before any work begins.

Can it all be fixed in one appointment?

Sometimes, but often not. Where the safe route is two or three appointments, we will tell you that at the consultation rather than over-process your hair to hit a deadline.

Hair Treatments and Damaged Hair View service

Will a treatment repair damaged hair permanently?

No treatment permanently reverses structural damage. Treatments improve condition, manageability and how the hair behaves during colour. Where the honest answer is a cut, we will tell you.

When is Wella Plex used?

It is used through a colour service rather than booked on its own, and it is most worthwhile with lightening work such as foils, balayage and staged colour. It is $58 and can be added to any colour appointment.

My hair is in poor condition. Should I still book colour?

Tell us before you book. Depending on what we find, we may recommend delaying a colour service, staging it across more than one appointment, or cutting the compromised ends first. We would rather say that than take a booking that leaves your hair worse.

Blow Waves and Event Styling View service

How long does a blow wave last?

Typically two to four days, depending on your hair type, how much product is used and the weather.

Do you do wedding and event hair?

Yes. We recommend booking a trial for anything structured, and booking the day itself well in advance during wedding and racing season.

Should I wash my hair before an event booking?

Generally not on the day. Second-day hair holds a set better. Your stylist will advise you at the trial.
